Fourth and final Russel Wright haul (Status: Did I save the best for last?)

Last post for the RW haul.  So, "Tom" bought the RW collection at a storage locker sale about five years ago ("before they were popular", his parents said) and then he appears to have had no idea what to do with all of the stuff.  Finally, his parents told him it all had to go.  Interestingly, the original owner was the wife of a prominent Dayton doctor and, when fresh from college, she had been an intern in the Nixon/Ford White house.

The last email I sent to the guy with this RW collection asked him if I needed to bring boxes and packing material or was the collection already packed; no reply.  I loaded some boxes and bubble wrap, just to be sure, and made the hour long drive to the Dayton area.

I spotted the ad for 150+ pieces of Russel Wright in Craigslist for Dayton and fired off an email, assuming that that the collection had probably already sold, as the ad was three weeks old by this point.  I had no reply after five days but decided to send another email; this time I received a message back that the collection was still available (yeah!) but that was all it said.

I don't have the biggest collection of Russel Wright dinnerware but I have some variety (wish I had some aluminum, silverware and furniture).  I broke my collection down, for this post, by Steubenville, Iroquois Casual, Serving pieces and finishing with the Morgantown glass pieces.

I found three spindle back chairs at a thrift store on the West side of Columbus; one of them has a big ol' white water stain on the seat and I'm going to show you how I got rid of it.

GRAND OPENING!

For the grand opening, I thought a post about a grand opening would be appropriate.  A new Volunteers of America thrift store opened in Columbus, Thursday May 5 2011, and I was there to see what were the pickin's.

How's them pickin's!

• Vintage chrome metal, not plastic, Sunbeam Mixmaster with original glass bowl
• Russel Wright Iroquois Casual in chartreuse (4 coffee cups, 3 dinner plates, 4 saucers, 3 bread plates)
• Small extendable desk lamp by Epic (more on this lil' cutie latter) 
• Panasonic flip clock radio with real wood end panels and true brushed aluminum trim (not the plastic that you usually find)
• 1980's globe (still has USSR so 1980's seems reasonable as a guess).
• Late 40's early 1950's white Sunbeam Mixmaster with original bowls, ceramic juicer attachment and metal juicer spout.  The instruction booklet and recipe guide is copyrighted 1948.

I got the Danish Modern coffee table (Mersman) last week at another VOA, on the west side of the city; it has some scuffs and a few blemishes (a little paint, light scratches) but I think it will clean-up very nicely.  I'll do a post on the fix-up of this table latter.

I had my cart so filled that I was forced to precariously balance the chrome sunbeam atop the handlebars of the cart.  Once I lost the glass vessel to a blender this way (it fell off right at the cash register- SMASH) so I was careful to make a secure space for the glass bowl in the cart, even if the mixer could not fit.
