What is this, some kind of printer?

Here are a bunch of typewriters that I have picked up in the last 3 months.  The first 3 are manual Royal "Quiet Deluxe" models from the 1950s, followed by the lone electric Royal and then a Remington manual typewriter.  I sure can't write a blog post with them but they are pretty cool.
I got this one at a thrift store in a small college town; I like to think it was owned by a professor who wore a tweed jacket and hoped to be the next Jack Kerouac.  The case is a pebble grain leather and the keys are back painted glass.

The next two came from the new VOA, on Henderson Rd, about two weeks apart (that place is typewriter central).  I like the "tweed" cases, they remind me of old Fender guitar amps of the same period.

The cream coloured Royal on the right has all the bells and whistles including the arms to keep your paper from curling and "Magic Margin" buttons.
The gray Royal, on the left, is a basic model but I think the green keys look spiffy.

Here is the Royal Apollo (electric) which comes in a very space age plastic cover; I can totally see this baby sitting on Commander Koenig's desk in Moonbase Alpha (Space 1999). This came out of a Salvation Army store.

From the good-old U.S. of A, comes this nice Remington Manual that I picked up at an estate sale.

While I don't find this typewriter to be as "sexy" as the Royals, I think the stitched leather edging and brown bakelite handle give the case a real feeling of class.

I'll add your blog to my blogroll, and I've already followed you - can't wait to see your scores! :)

  2. Mitzi,
It was John from the Boomerang Room that kept snakin' the goods; I'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunities to out fox me in the future. I've been following your blog for a while (huh, I don't know why I have not added you to my blogroll- I'll get on that).
