So last year I found two Paul McCobb chairs and an awesome Baumritter Danish style lounger on my birthday. This year I did not find anything on my birthday because I was at the vet with a sick kitten (when I say "my birthday was poop", I mean that one of my kittens had some baaaaad diarrhea). I decided to do some hardcore thrifting over one week, and hit 34 stores in 5 towns and 3 counties- that's why I call this my birthday thrift orgy; I will present my finds in several parts.
Today we view the lamps:
Ummy, three really nice lamps. It used to seem like I saw cool lamps pretty regularly and so I became very picky about how much I would pay for a "common" mid century lamp ($4-5); those salad days of finding lamps seems to have ended so now I will jump on them for anything under ten bucks.
Gaze on the drip glaze glory of this huge 26" tall lamp. I need to clean the base as it has a few spots of surface rust but, otherwise, this baby is good to go! This came from the west side Volunteers of America in Columbus.
I actually have another of this white 24" tall "onion bulb" base lamp (twins!); the photo doesn't really show the "pebbly" or "lava" texture of the base that contrasts to the smooth wood neck. I found this lamp at the Indianola V.O.A. in Columbus.
This last lamp came from a Goodwill in a small town near my hometown. The chevron design is pretty cool, I think it's supposed to look like the veining in a leaf or like a palm frond. This is the shorty of the trio and only stands about 22" in height.
BTW: sick kitten is not frequent blog guest Bubba- but is Mimi, who is one of my two Manx kittens.
Mimi is on the right and Toutou is on the left.
Aw poor kitty, hope she's feeling better now! Also, I heartily approve of your birthday thrift orgy, I too always go thrift or vintage shopping in honor of my birthday. Rad lamps, I've put myself on a lamp ban as I don't have enough room for all the ones I keep finding, sigh.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the rest of your finds!
LOVE the white lamp! great finds!
ReplyDeleteThe white lamp looks pretty similar to a Quartite lamp that recently found a new home from our store. 1958 and marked along the bottom. Looking forward to more picks and will start following...
ReplyDelete@The Thriftaholic (leilani)- Mimi is fine and her butt is even clean, now.
ReplyDelete@Bandita- Thanks and i'll miss your blog.
@A Modern Line- This is a run-of-the-mill pebbly ceramic lamp, I wish it was quartzite. I'll add you to my blog roll, as well. Thanks!
