Tried swimming around this mid mod auction pond. Status: smarter but empty handed

Sunday there was a nice Mid Mod themed auction full of tasty goodies like this Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin circular green Lounge chair with ottoman.

(My friend Joanna doesn't come with the chair.  With a little editing this would make a good album cover, right?)

What is this, some kind of printer?

Here are a bunch of typewriters that I have picked up in the last 3 months.  The first 3 are manual Royal "Quiet Deluxe" models from the 1950s, followed by the lone electric Royal and then a Remington manual typewriter.  I sure can't write a blog post with them but they are pretty cool.
I got this one at a thrift store in a small college town; I like to think it was owned by a professor who wore a tweed jacket and hoped to be the next Jack Kerouac.  The case is a pebble grain leather and the keys are back painted glass.

Friday garage sales/ tag sales and that damn guy

I woke up early and hit the streets, trolling garage sales but there was "that guy", at every damn sale, gettin' the goodies before I could!  18 garage sales, 2 tag sales and 1 thrift store and this is all I have to show.

Yesterday I showed you the dinning set that I picked up at an auction in my home town; today I'll show you the smalls (that's what she said).

About six months ago I braved a raging snowstorm and temperatures in the teens to attend an estate sale where I picked up a cool little Danish dinning set and buffet in the small town where I grew up.

There is this Danish influenced table, with a white formica top, that came with four chairs.  The whole set would be perfect for an apartment or a little mid mod bungalow.

I also got this buffet.  The auctioneer decided to sell the little "hutch"part separately, and even though I had already won the buffet, someone actually bid on it (maybe for spite).

The set was made by the Richardson Brothers Company and was a part of their Peabody Collection.  I have spent HOURS on Google and eBay trying to find out more info on the company and the Peabody Collection, to no avail.  The chairs also have a label stating that they were manufactured by the ubiquitous Nemschoff Chair company, I've seen quite a few chairs from the mid mods with nemschoff labels.

Does anyone know anything about the Peabody Collection?  Looks like it must have been a cool collection. Unfortunately, I did not get the Robjohns Gibbons coffee table (it was pretty thrashed, with sun damage and lots of water rings), the Baughman upholstered bench or the Nelson sunburst clock (that went for $560).  I also picked up some dishes and bar ware that I will cover...tomorrow?

Ahhh, Franciscan Starburst pattern, is there any more sought after ceramic mid century beastie?

I caught this school of 38 starburst pieces at an auction of the contents from an antique store that closed 15 years ago.  The owners finally decided to auction off the contents and so these have come to swim in my aquarium. I have only pictured the un chipped pieces.
The collection includes a covered butter dish, salt & pepper, 6 luncheon plates (3 chipped), 5 bread  (3 chipped) plates.

One serving platter, 3 vegetable bowls, 5 coffee cups (one hairline crack), 8 saucers (one chipped)

 and 8 dinner plates (one chipped).

This lil' bundle of starburst, which I'm keeping, was relatively inexpensive; if I had purchased these on eBay they would easily cost me $500-600, so believe me - I got a nice deal (although I know someone who got a similar size haul of Starburst in Canada for $15.00!).

GRAND OPENING!

For the grand opening, I thought a post about a grand opening would be appropriate.  A new Volunteers of America thrift store opened in Columbus, Thursday May 5 2011, and I was there to see what were the pickin's.

How's them pickin's!

• Vintage chrome metal, not plastic, Sunbeam Mixmaster with original glass bowl
• Russel Wright Iroquois Casual in chartreuse (4 coffee cups, 3 dinner plates, 4 saucers, 3 bread plates)
• Small extendable desk lamp by Epic (more on this lil' cutie latter) 
• Panasonic flip clock radio with real wood end panels and true brushed aluminum trim (not the plastic that you usually find)
• 1980's globe (still has USSR so 1980's seems reasonable as a guess).
• Late 40's early 1950's white Sunbeam Mixmaster with original bowls, ceramic juicer attachment and metal juicer spout.  The instruction booklet and recipe guide is copyrighted 1948.

I got the Danish Modern coffee table (Mersman) last week at another VOA, on the west side of the city; it has some scuffs and a few blemishes (a little paint, light scratches) but I think it will clean-up very nicely.  I'll do a post on the fix-up of this table latter.

I had my cart so filled that I was forced to precariously balance the chrome sunbeam atop the handlebars of the cart.  Once I lost the glass vessel to a blender this way (it fell off right at the cash register- SMASH) so I was careful to make a secure space for the glass bowl in the cart, even if the mixer could not fit.
